ANA\C Awards Winners Announced! 

ANA\C awarded six accomplished members and leaders in nursing practice inside and outside of clinical or academic settings, at the 2018 Annual Awards Luncheon at the ANA\C General Assembly in Newport Beach, California, on November 10, 2018. We are proud to announce the 2018 ANA\C Award Winners: 


The ANA\C President Award recognizes a registered nurse for outstanding contribution to nursing.  We are excited to announce Dr. Joseph Morris, PhD, MSN, RN as the 2018 recipient! Dr. Morris’s leadership of the CA Board of Registered Nursing, through his innovative use of new technology to speed up the application process for nursing graduates, his dedication to the advancement of nursing in implementing the BRN’s APRN Advisory Subcommittee, and his ongoing effort to increase diversity in nursing, are some of the attributes that led ANA\C President Phillip Bautista, to select Dr. Morris for the award. We recognize Dr. Morris’s accomplishments and we thank him for his contribution to the profession of nursing. 



The ANA\C Public Service Award recognizes the public service accomplishments of a registered nurse. Dr. Elizabeth Dietz, EdD, RN, CS-NP, is the 2018 recipient! Dr. Dietz is a founding member of ANA\C, former Board Member and ANA\C President, and served on the ANA PAC. Dr. Dietz is being recognized for her work with the American Red Cross during natural disasters and for her service to the community. Dr. Dietz’s well-being assessment of the American Red Cross field workers and volunteers is fundamental to the its success. Most recently, Dr. Dietz visited the American Red Cross during the Mt. Shasta fires. We recognize Dr. Dietz’s accomplishments and we thank her for her commitment to nursing. 



The Elizabeth “Betty” Curtis Award recognizes a registered nurse advocating on behalf of nursing and healthcare in the legislative, regulatory or public policy arenas. Dr. Diana Taylor, PhD, RNP, FAAN, is the 2018 recipient and we could not be more proud! Dr. Taylor has been a nurse advocate throughout her career, working on the Full Scope of Practice Bill in Oregon, promoting increased access to women’s health care, and working with the CA BRN on updating regulations for NPs. We recognize Dr. Taylor and thank her for her advocacy and leadership. 




The Ray Cox Award recognizes the lifelong commitment of a registered nurse to the advancement of the profession of nursing in California. It is our pleasure to honor Dr. Maria O’Rourke, RN, PhD, FAAN, our ANA\C GA keynote speaker, as the 2018 recipient! Dr. O’Rourke was the key advocate and leader in rewriting the California Nursing Practice Act. She serves as a mentor, is a sought-after speaker, nationally and internationally, and continues to inspire CA nurses every day. We recognize Dr. O’Rourke’s accomplishments and thank her for her commitment to nursing. 



The Florence Nightingale Award recognizes the delivery of outstanding direct patient care by a registered nurse. Christine Lee BSN, RN, CMSRN,is the 2018 recipient, and we are so happy to recognize her! Ms. Lee demonstrates professional dedication to her patients and to outstanding direct nursing care every day. She goes above and beyond her duties, and her patients and colleagues recognize and appreciate it. We recognize Ms. Lee’s dedication and thank her for her commitment to nursing. 



The Joanne Powell Award recognizes outstanding leadership in a registered nurse with less than five years of practice. Corinne MacEgan, MSN/Ed, RN, CHPN, former ANA\C President, is the 2018 recipient, and we are excited to recognize her! Ms. MacEgan’s leadership and patient advocacy has won her the respect of her peers and the appreciation of her patients. With almost five years of nursing practice experience, Ms. MacEgan has already demonstrated her aptitude for leadership and we can’t wait to see her career unfold. We recognize Ms. MacEgan’s dedication to her patients, and we thank her for her commitment to nursing.
